How many children carve enchanted walking sticks, with plaited kite tails and smiling suns? How many children giftedly blow into unsophisticated flutes and chase the “Calusari” to ask for their protection against the evil nymphs, then dance alongside grown-ups? How many children voice the ballads heard from the witty elders of the village? Plenty of them do. Yet, with time, cold and need shrivel them slowly but surely, and their once beautiful smiles turn into crooked smirks like in those evil creatures stories.
There is so much trouble and suffering that even our sweet “doinas” start to hurt.
Too many children have stopped dreaming. The light within them, the God given gift they carry inside are slowly dying. All that is left is forgetfulness and bitterness as we notice that the world has lost its balance, things have turned upside down, good became bad and bad became good on the new scale of values made up by erratic minds. This is how our values got twisted in endless sad stories of children that have been abandoned, abused, and lied to.
We reach for you to join us in giving a meaning to and in adding human valences to our passing through this world, much too often mean and grumpy, so that we may try to love more, hate less, make room for our children in the front row of our hearts. If they make it in life, if they fulfill their destinies while singing and carving in wood in the great challenge of the muses through art, then we too will feel better, more comforted, more serene. Thus we will rest assured that the soul of this nation is still vibrating!
